Food Inc

Somehow, my computer won't let me login to my blog, so I'm doing this from my iPhone. So, sorry if I had some spelling mistakes.
Over the winter break, I watched a movie called "Food Inc."
Just to give a short summary, this movie was about how agriculture had became into an "industry." The reason why we see same vegetables and fruits at supermarket throughout the year is because agriculture not something natural anymore. Because consumers prefer chickens breast part, many birds are artificially grown into twice as big as they normally should be, and their legs would break if they walk only 2 or 3 steps because they cannot afford to hold that huge body.
One big problem of agriculture is "corn." Most food sold in the supermarkets contains some kind of corn products, and corn is also used as food for cows, too. Cows cannot afford to digest corn, so many of them get sick. These birds and cows are not animals anymore, they are considered as products.
However, it is us consumers that should be careful. We all should take care what we eat daily, and we ourselves have to protect our own health.

  1. This is an excellent film but difficult to watch because of the parts that show the extreme cruelty that's inflicted on animals that are raised on factory farms. Unfortunately, virtually all the meat you eat in restaurants and buy in supermarkets is raised in such a manner, which is one reason why it can be so cheap. It's possible to buy "free range" eggs or broiler chickens but they make a small percentage of the market.

It's hideous to feed animals food that we know will make them seriously ill, like feeding corn to cows. To grow chickens into such unnaturally large creatures that their bones can't support their weight and walking becomes painful is beyond cruel.

The image we get of animals being raised for food in school is a happy "Elsie the cow" [see one on YouTube that I grew up with at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TXzyebLmbk ] or tranquil pigs in this ad for corned pork [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VQReQuZCO0 ].

  2. I prefer watching fiction movies, but because the theme of this movie is so close related to our life, it sounds worth watching it.
Food is something imperative to our life, so I think it is important to know what is going on.
